Notes for this articleTake home: male and female vocal productions and duets varied tremendously depending on time of year and breeding stage. Male-female duets peaked early in season, but as egg-laying commenced, females stopped singing as much, while males increased production. Results suggest early duets are used in territorial establishment, and coordination of breeding season, while later male vocal displays are part of resource defense. (nest/paternity/pair protection)
