AbstractThere are a growing number of reports of late onset of stammering from clinicians but a lack of data concerning the nature, aetiology and outcomes of therapy. This research attempts to replicate in Great Britain a survey of clinicians carried out in America. Clinicians completed a questionnaire on their clients with acquired stammering. Details on possible cause, speech and language characteristics, and therapeutic outcomes were compared with the American study. Results were similar in terms of aetiology and outcome measures despite reported differences in characteristics and treatment regimes offered.
