AbstractConcurrent programming is notoriously difficult. Current abstractions are intricate to use and make it difficult to design computer systems that are reliable and scalable. They require programmers to commit to a particular locking discipline at an early stage. We argue in favour of a declarative style of concurrency control in which programmers directly indicate the safety properties that they require, rather than how to enforce them.
